Vintage 2021 with Cellar Supervisors Sergi, Stuart & Tom!

With 2021 Vintage in full swing we caught up with our incredible Cellar Supervisors Sergi, Stuart and Tom, to chat all things grape crushing, processing and final products. The team’s excitement around another Vintage is contagious! Our team will be working around the clock to process the expected 10,000 tonnes of grapes coming through Idyll Wine Co this year.

What are you most looking forward to for Vintage 2021?

Stuart: I am most looking forward to the buzz around the winery while we are processing grapes and turning them into wine!

Tom: It would have to be working with our awesome Vintage crew!

What does a day in the life of a Cellar Supervisor at Idyll Wine co. look like?

Sergi: I must always be switched on. Knowing all the tasks happening in the cellar, being ready to give a helping hand and training all the new staff.

Stuart: We manage the workload for all the Cellar Hands to ensure that all cellar work is done effectively, efficiently and safely.

What is the most exciting part about your role at Idyll Wine Co?

Sergi: Problem solving! It’s always rewarding to break down problems and find a solution.

Stuart: The fast paced nature of being a Supervisor. Ensuring the cellar is running smoothly often means we are doing several tasks at once.

What is your favourite thing about working at Idyll Wine Co?

Sergi: Definitively the crew! We have a stellar line up this year.

Stuart: The way that I am constantly learning and being taught new things every day.

Tom: The variety of the work and the people I get to work with!

Have you always worked in the wine industry?

Sergi: Not at all. I studied bioengineering back in Spain which although a different field, gave me the tools to understand most of the machinery and wine production that happens in the winery.

Stuart: I have a degree in Sports Coaching. My first wine industry job was at Idyll Wine Co as a cellar hand last vintage.

Tom: Almost every year since I finished school, except a few, but I returned to the wine industry as I love it!

What is your favourite product produced by Idyll Wine Co?

Sergi: Eden Grove Shiraz takes the win with a very smooth and fruity flavour, a top tier Shiraz!

Stuart: It would have to be a can of Cider on a sunny afternoon.

Tom: Growing up in Rutherglen, I’d have to say the Idyll Durif.
