Tripling our Canning Capacity in 2021

Our new canning line has been commissioned, which will take our total canning capacity from 3,500 to 13,500 cans per hour. Operations Coordinator Harry and Maintenance Fitter Brant were key members of the installation team and explain the new canning line’s capabilities below.

How many cans per hour does this canning line produce?

Harry: The new canning line is capable of producing 10,000 cans per hour, with the potential for 12,000 cans in the future. This capacity is in addition to the 3,500 cans per hour we can already produce on our pre-existing canning line.

How many different can sizes will this line package?

Harry: Like our existing line, the new canning line is capable of producing a range of classic (330ml, 355ml, 375ml), slim (250ml, 200ml, 330ml) and sleek can varieties. However, we aren’t limited to just these sizes. We are always looking to enhance our capabilities to meet customer needs and have done this successfully on numerous occasions.

What sort of products do you expect to see this line produce?

Harry: We have already produced a range of cider and ready-to-drink products, and expect to see large production runs of seltzers and canned wines as the year progresses. We already produce all of these products on our existing canning line, and now we have the ability to produce even more.

What was involved in commissioning the canning line?

Brant: Due to the pandemic, the canning line was required to be assembled in Italy first, before being dismantled and shipped to our facility in sections. As each of the four shipping containers arrived from Italy, we started the process of joining all the equipment together. Once the equipment was assembled, we were able to install all piping and electrical elements.

What was the most challenging part of the install?

Brant: Because the machine manufacturers were based in Italy, most of the installation was conducted virtually. Utilising futuristic virtual reality glasses, we worked in real time with the support of the Italian technicians who could guide us through each step of the installation process. Alongside a great team of trades here in Australia, we pushed through the challenges and successfully installed this new piece of equipment.
