Investing in efficiency and machine upgrades

We have upgraded the accumulation table for our cluster pak and carton wrap machine on our largest bottling line. After installing a mezzanine deck and the equipment to lift cider and rtd bottles from the bottling lines below to the mezzanine deck in July/August 2021, we have recently installed upgrades to the accumulation table to enhance the operation of our bottling line. After some innovative thinking with Garvey, the new accumulation table was designed and built before being shipped to Idyll from the USA. The accumulation table leads all bottles into the cluster pak machine which wraps bottles in 4 or 6pks. We’ve outlined below the changes implemented and how such changes have lead to enhanced operations.

Increased speed

The new accumulation table enables the cluster pak and wrap machines to generate more output per hour, as bottles are lead into the machines from the labeller below at an increased speed. There is also decreased downtime when a label change occurs as the accumulation table can be filled before a label change commences, enabling bottles to be processed through the cluster pak machine throughout the label changeover.

Enhanced electrical sensor communication

The packaging lines communicate to each following stage (ie: filler, screw capper, labeller etc) via high-tech sensors that indicate when machines can be sped up, slowed down or paused. With updated technology installed on this packaging line, if the cluster pak or carton wrap machine pauses, the accumulation table will continue to fill with bottled product until the rear sensor on the accumulation table is activated, pausing the labeller underneath the mezzanine deck. Once the machines commence normal operation again and the accumulation table clears, the sensors activate the labeller below to commence operations again. These sensors also signal the cluster pak and carton wrap machines to increase their speed to keep up with the bottles coming from the machinery below.

Improved Westrock wrap machine

The previously installed Westrock machine was upgraded to a more high-tech model that operates faster and more reliably than the previous model. This upgrade also assists in being able to increase the speed of operations as bottles are wrapped in 4 and 6 pack clusters at an increased rate.
