Get to Know Our Cellar Door Team

Our Cellar Door is small but mighty, punching well above it’s weight in our local Geelong Wine Region. And as with any family business, it’s all hands on deck when it comes to running our Cellar Door - a real team effort between our administrative team, our logistics team and our warehouse. We caught up with some of our Cellar Door’s most familiar faces – Elissa, Sarah and Shannon – to see what the Cellar Door is looking like post-lockdown. (And if you’re planning to visit us, be sure to review the social distancing measures we have in place).

What do you love most about being part of the Cellar Door Team?

Shannon; I love the small team we have, we have fun together. I also love when customers bring their babies and young kids into the shop (which unfortunately has had to stop during the current COVID situation).

Sarah; It gives us a moment to step away from our busy roles, time to chat to our customers and have a laugh.

Elissa: I also love our small team and getting to have a chat with our customers is great.

What do our customers love most about our Cellar Door?

Shannon; Our customers really enjoy our history, especially the name change back to Idyll – which was the original name when the Sefton’s used to run the business. We often hear stories of customers who used to come to our winery in the 80’s and 90’s. Some will even bring their first release bottles from the Sefton era to show us! The idea of supporting local is also something our Cellar Door customers enjoy as well as talking about our sustainability initiatives and how much our business is growing.

Sarah; I enjoy meeting the new customers that come in, they may have lived in Geelong their whole lives and have now just discovered the Cellar Door – it’s like a hidden gem! I enjoy chatting with the elderly clients we have, they come out with their friends or their carer, some don’t even drink themselves but they buy wine for their children or for their afternoon guests, and they love to see our vineyard and views of the Moorabool Valley.

Which wines are most popular at the Cellar Door?

Team; Our wine stocks change weekly, but our most popular would have to be our exported red wines particularly those exported to Germany & France. Our Idyll Victoria Wines are very popular as this is one of the only places they can be purchased. Our cider cans are also increasing in popularity.

What are each of your personal favourite products from the Cellar Door?

Elissa; I’m a big fan of the Arcadian Pinot Grigio, its light and fresh.

Shannon; Idyll Blanc de Blanc –  I have a soft spot for this product as the grapes are exclusively grown on site. It has the perfect amount of bubbles and is presented and packaged beautifully.

Sarah: Idyll Durif -  A rare varietal that is sourced from local Moorabool Valley grapes just up the road.

How have you been getting the Cellar Door ready to re-open?

Team; Very busy and hectic - a lot of work goes on behind the scenes! We have a Cellar Door contact list and we have been phoning customers since reopening, and personally inviting them back to our Cellar Door. We have implemented a lot of social distancing and personal hygiene measures to make a visit to our Cellar Door a safe experience for everyone involved. This includes having screens installed, displaying new signage, setting up sanitization areas and moving to a card only payment model. We can’t wait to see everyone again now that we have reopened!

Our Cellar Door is open from Monday to Friday, from 10am to 4pm. If you have any questions prior to your visit, you can contact us here.
