Celebrating International Sangria Day

Today we’re celebrating International Sangris day which falls on December 20th every year. Sangria is a traditional Spanish beverage that dates back to as early as 200BC. This fruity punch is perfect for an Australian Summer and we thought we’d share our best recipes to celebrate the occasion. We’ve used our signature Idyll Victoria range as these fruit forward wines compliment the fresh fruits in the Sangria. Be sure to give our recipes a go, we’d love to see your creations!

Red Wine Sangria

Our Red Wine sangria uses our Idyll Victoria Cabernet Sauvignon and an array of fruit that pairs well with the wine. Add sliced orange, apple, strawberry and blueberries to a pitcher. Add in a dash of orange juice, and a sprinkle of brown sugar. If you’re feeling extra adventurous or like that extra kick, add in a dash of brandy or rum. Pour in the whole bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, and let it rest in the fridge for a few hours. This allows the fruit to absorb all the wonderful flavours. When you’re ready to serve, pour straight into an ice filled glass.

White Wine Sangria

This White Wine Sangria oozes summer vibes. We recommended using our Idyll Victoria Sauvignon Blanc for this recipe, but it would also pair well with our Arcadian Pinot Grigio. Summer fruits work incredibly well for this recipe, we used strawberries, lemon, raspberries, nectarine and lime. Add a sprinkle of brown sugar, a dash of peach schnapps, some chunks of mint and the whole bottle of Idyll Victoria Sauvignon Blanc. If you’re feeling bubbly, add in a cup of lemonade too. This recipe will have you tasting summer in no time.

Are you more of a red or white sangria fan? We hope to see these sangrias making an appearance at your Christmas table or summer celebrations this year. Be sure to tag us in your creations on Instagram and Facebook!
